What is the Import Tool?
Quick Start
Press Import
Click the Import button — its arrow points upwards to show sound coming in.
Choose where to import from
Choose this device, an available cloud account, or Freesound. Device import lets you select several files at once.
They become new tracks
Each file is added as its own track, ready to play and edit alongside the rest.
Places You Can Import From
Choose one or more sound files already on your computer or tablet.
Choose a sound stored in Google Drive when signed in with Google.
Choose a sound stored in OneDrive when signed in with Microsoft.
Search for reusable sound effects, preview one, then add it as a track.
Sound Files You Can Add
School Sounds can import common sound files, including:
High-quality sound, often used for effects and recordings.
The most common music file — small and easy to share.
Often used by phones and Apple devices.
Other common sound files your browser can read will work too.
Handy Tips!
• Import vs Open: Import adds a track to your project. Open replaces everything with a saved project.
• Add many at once: When importing from your device, select several sound files together to bring them all in quickly.
• Name them: Rename imported tracks in the Edit Audio tool so your project stays tidy.
Good to Know
• Only use sound you are allowed to use. Music from the internet often belongs to someone else.
• Very large sound files use more of your device's memory.
Common Questions
My file won't import.
Check that it is a sound file your browser can read, such as WAV, MP3 or M4A. Some unusual file types are not supported.
Where does the new track go?
It is added to your list of tracks so you can play it together with the others straight away.
Can I import a project file?
Use the Open tool when you want a saved project to replace the current one. Import is for adding material to what is already on screen.
